This is our second visit to the Universal Helios Grand Hotel, but it marks our very first time actually staying on the property. We had previously visited and dined at Flora Taverna for breakfast. During that initial visit, we joked that we would probably never stay here because of how pricey it is, with a typical night costing anywhere from $500 to $700 a night. However, we found an incredible deal that changed our minds entirely.
The absolute biggest perk of this hotel is its location. It is directly connected to Universal Epic Universe, and the entrance is literally 20 steps away from the lobby. Guest Accommodations & Our King Suite Upgrade
We initially booked a standard room. When we checked in, the front desk asked if we would prefer a King size bed versus two Queens, and we gladly accepted. To our surprise, we were upgraded to a King Suite. There are only 14 of these suites in the entire hotel.
The King Suite is a massive one-bedroom layout. It features a King size bed and a completely separate living area equipped with a pull-out sleeper sofa, a dining table, and a wet bar complete with a microwave and mini-fridge. The bathroom is split, which is a fantastic design choice so multiple people can get ready at once.
The entire room is fully controllable via mounted iPads, allowing you to easily adjust the lights and temperature. We did discover a strange booking quirk regarding this suite. Even though it feels like it could comfortably sleep four people, the Universal booking system only shows it as available if you search for exactly three guests or fewer. For the night we stayed, this room would have cost almost $800 a night with a Florida resident discount, or between $1100 and $1200 at the standard rate.

Direct Access to Universal Epic Universe
The logistics of moving between the hotel and the theme park are straightforward but strict. To enter the hotel from Epic Universe, you will need your physical or digital hotel room key. To enter Epic Universe from the hotel, you will need both your room key and a valid theme park ticket. The proximity is unbeatable, and the dedicated entrance saves an immense amount of time in the morning.
On-Site Dining: From Quick Bites to Rooftop Views
When comparing the Helios Grand Hotel to the other Epic Universe area hotels like the Stella Nova Resort and Terra Luna Resort, we noticed that Stella Nova and Terra Luna have a much larger variety of quick-service options available in their main food courts. Helios takes a different approach.
Aurora Market is the primary grab-and-go spot. It serves Starbucks coffee, gelato, pastries, and basic snacks. It is highly convenient on your way out to the parks.
Flora Taverna features an open kitchen, a bar, and serves as the main sit-down restaurant. We found the breakfast to be okay, though nothing particularly special. We did not try the dinner service on this trip, but they do participate in the Magical Dining program.
The highlight of our dining experience was Bar Helios, the rooftop lounge. We specifically chose a dining time that would align with the Epic Universe nighttime show, Celestial Goodnight, which ran at 9:30 PM during our stay. We sat on the outdoor patio, and both the service and the views were incredible. Keep in mind that Bar Helios is definitely more of a drink and small-bite venue, rather than a full heavy dining spot. Even if you are not dining, you can visit the rooftop observation deck from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM daily.
Down by the water, Lotus Lagoon operates as both a pool bar and a quick-service restaurant. You can walk up and order at the bar, or the servers will come around your lounge chairs to take food and drink orders.

Pool, Fitness, and Hotel Amenities
We spent plenty of time enjoying the resort-style pool. It features a zero-entry design, a hot tub, and exceptional poolside service. There is plenty of seating available. One unique feature we loved that we have not seen offered before is their specialized chair towels. These towels are designed with a flap that slips over the top of the chair to stay securely in place and cover the entire seat. One warning for the Florida summer: the ground gets incredibly hot, so definitely keep your shoes on when walking around the pool deck.
For those looking to work out, the fitness center is state-of-the-art. An excellent tip for guests who might need to check out early but want to stay at the parks: there are showers and lockers located right in the adjacent bathrooms.
The hotel also features a small arcade room with a handful of modern video games to choose from, as well as a dedicated Universal Studios Store carrying theme park merchandise and travel sundries.
Parking Fees and Validation Rules
Parking at the Universal Helios Grand Hotel requires careful planning due to the steep fees for non-guests. If you are staying overnight at the resort, self-parking is $36 per night and valet parking is $45 per night.
However, if you are just visiting the hotel for the day, self-parking spikes to $125 per day and valet is $128 per day. You can get your day parking validated, but it requires a minimum spend of $50 at Bar Helios or $75 at Flora Taverna. This validation only covers your self-parking for up to 4 hours. Staying longer than 4 hours means you will be hit with the standard day-guest self-parking fee. Note that valet parking and pool bars like Lotus Lagoon do not qualify for this validation.

Overall, our stay was a fantastic experience. With the aggressive deal we secured, it was hard to pass up. By utilizing a Florida resident discount, we paid an average of $160 per night plus the cost of parking. Just so you are aware for your own budgeting, the hotel does place an incidental hold on your credit card of $200 per night upon check-in.
