Rumor Radar
Universal Orlando Resort has confirmed only that the coaster will tell an all-new story inspired by the classic Universal Monsters franchise. Everything in this section is fan and insider speculation, not an announcement.
Is the Creature from the Black Lagoon Boat Ride Theory Dead?
The indoor coaster announcement effectively ends the long-running rumor of a Creature from the Black Lagoon boat ride on this plot.
For more than a year, the leading rumor placed a Creature from the Black Lagoon boat ride on this expansion site. Insiders speculate Universal switched to a coaster to add capacity at Universal Epic Universe. A weather-proof indoor ride would also stay open during typical Florida rainstorms.
Will the New Coaster Feature the Bride of Frankenstein?
The Bride of Frankenstein is the leading fan theory, but Universal Orlando Resort has not confirmed any character for the coaster.
The Bride of Frankenstein is missing from the main character lineups on the existing Dark Universe rides. The character still appears in village meet-and-greets and park merchandise. Some analysts expect a story coaster system similar to Revenge of the Mummy or Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, mixing physical sets, animatronics, and coaster elements.
Could Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde or The Invisible Man Get the Coaster?
A secondary theory points to classic tales without their own ride yet, such as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde or The Invisible Man.
Other fans expect a multi-monster escape story. That version would send riders through a second wing of Frankenstein’s estate or the surrounding Darkmoor woods.
Which Universal Monster Should Get the New Dark Universe Coaster?
OPEN’s team would rather see Dracula or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde than another Frankenstein story in Dark Universe.
Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment already gives the Frankenstein story a flagship ride next door. A Bride of Frankenstein coaster would cover familiar ground. Dracula already appears elsewhere in Dark Universe, but OPEN’s team still sees the Count as a stronger fit than a second Frankenstein ride. Either way, OPEN’s team expects a classic monster to headline the coaster.
